Like everyone else, Covid has managed to muck up my day to day life, hence the lack of input to the blog. I have finally got back to the wishbone modifications.
When I left off, I had extended the outer leg of the first wishbone. In order to make sure that the other side was the same, I had made up a jig. Now it was time for major surgery on the inner section of the arm. The idea was to drill a 38mm hole to take the tube that I was planning to use to replace the removed section.
I used a hole saw for that. Next I needed to sort out some spacers for the rose joints. I had bought in the taper ones in but they still needed some further trimming & then I turned up the parallel ones.
Before I went any further, I needed to make sure that my idea with the curved tube was going to work.
Without cutting off the rest of the original section of the wishbone, I was unable to fully check but was able to mark where I needed to cut.
The cut off disc soon removed the offending section, which has now given me full access.
I wanted to see how much the shocks were going to need to be altered.
My idea of drilling the 38mm hole didn't work. I ended up slotting both ends for the tube.
There was also a gusset to be welded in and the end of the tube to be capped.
The whole arm was then bead blasted prior to painting.
