Getting back to work after such a long break was a bit of a shock to the old system. Luckily the weather wasn't too bad and I was able to get on with the strip down of the Honda. Today, it was time to get the Proflex off the front. Even this wasn't straightforward, as the damage had closed up the hole in the inner wing
where the canister comes through. Although the damage to the sumpguard had looked really bad, it had stopped any damage to the sump, exhaust and
gearbox.
With the guard off, it was also easier to see the damage to the drivers floor pan. Not a pretty sight. It looks like the off side drive shaft had a bit of a traumatic
moment being lifted off the rocks.
The rest of the front suspension is staying on the car, as the impact makes it all a little bit suspect.
The lights and associated parts have also come off.
Time to move onto the removal of the engine and gearbox and another indication of just how far the accident damage traveled. The off side strut top mount was split.
Having previously taken away quite a lot of the ancillary parts, removing the engine and box, was relatively pain free. Note the use of the block of wood to spread the chains, to protect the cam belt cover and distributor from
damage.
Now I have easy access to the odds and sods, like the Cartek cut out, the fuel sample valve, horns etc, which will go over to the replacement car.
