At long last the 750MC have made the regulations final & in their infinite wisdom the provisional changes have been ratified so no more Bilsteins or similar. Back to the drawing board for John at BAD for our shocks.
Meanwhile the engine is coming along nicely
the head is just about ready, we just need to check our clearances with the control Kent cam, just to make sure the bits going up don't meet the bits going down.
I think Andy is looking forward to getting out in the car but seems to be a bit concerned about the Championship as his work commitments mean he will not be able to do all the rounds.
At last we have the Saxo back from the paint shop sporting Andy Barnett's new colours and can now get on with the build.
Our development engine is well under way and we are probably going to be held up a little with the front suspension as we still need a little clarification on what the organisers will & wont allow. There are a few more photos in the Saxo album & we will add to it as we build the car.
You may have noticed that we have introduced some photos of the build of Andy Barnett's Saxo. The car is now away at the paint shop to have inside & out painted following our fitting of the roll cage. We are expecting the car back next week ,just in time for us to close for Christmas.
Meanwhile we have been having a look at the TU5 engine with a view to squeezing a bit more power out of it. Our XU engines for the 205,s produce in excess of 135bhp and this will be the minimum target for the TU. The draft regulations have tightened up a few grey areas that were available in the past & I think a few people will be detuning their what were perfectly legal engines to comply with the 2008 rules. Best published figures I've seen so far are 120bhp & 109lbs/ft of torque by PM Racing [std is about 98bhp for an early Saxo] but knowing the capabilities of the TU I suspect that some of the guys out there have knocking on 140 bhp.
We are still awaiting a clarification on the strut front issue as the new regs outlaw any Bilstein type of inverted strut. John at BAD Suspension meanwhile is working on our C2 damping.
In 2007 we have prepared Stock Hatch 205's for Andy Muggeridge & Andy Barnett. For 2008 Andy Muggeridge will continue to campaign his 205 while Andy Barnett will use a newly built Citroen Saxo.
The Saxo is currently having its cage welded in before going off to the paint shop. Our plan is to use BAD development suspension but the provisional 2008 regs have effectively banned any form of inverted strut [Bilstein type] where the body of the insert fixes to the car. When I rang the eligibility scrutineers to check this out the implications of their trying to ban Ohlin type shocks hit home. I was told me to ring back next week. mmm. There are some other detail changes which might mean a few people will have to replace their valve seats as multi angle seats are banned unless OE. Still getting around these things is what makes life intereting.
We hope to start testing in mid Jan prior to the opening race in March
