R1 1400 C2
Citroen R1 1400 C2
This 1400 C2 is our development car and throughout the year we will work to produce a competitive affordable clubmans car.
The car uses a hybrid Leda/BAD suspension system with adjustable platforms front and rear.
Damper & spring rates are based on settings from our R2 and early tests & an outing on The North Humberside Rally seem to confirm our calculations.
The roll cage which is bolt in by OMP and is a really good fit and offers excellent protection. Seats & belts are FIA spec as are the extinguishers.
Through out the build the aim is to keep costs to a minimum but not to compromise too much on quality. With this in mind we have used the Citroen Sport plastic under guards for the floor & tank. These are a fraction of the cost of the carbon composite items & have been fine on the R2. I think they contributed to the fact that we consistently weighed in with the lightest car last year.
The standard car is hampered by a gap in the gearing between 2nd & 3rd and for the R1 car we will probably use a dog box together with a 4.8 final drive. This will be our next target while also trying to find some better ratios in the C2 range for the Rally First spec car.
Testing will be undertaken by Dominic Hodge & Tony Simpson who will contest the BTRDA Rally First & BRC Challenge respectively with Rob Brokes trying the car in Rally First form on the Dukeries Rally.
The other area under review at the moment is power which is down on our main competitors. While this is not a problem in the BRC Challenge as we can modify to Gp N rules it will not be so easy in Rally first.
