The car started with a push & we drove off the ferry. At this point we were still undecided whether to change the pump or to make our way straight to Kamena Vourla. As we had no map of Greece, just the road book to go by, Richard went into the Port Office to try to get a map.
Overnight Thanos had confirmed that he had a suitable cylinder head, all ready & I thought, carbs & manifold to suit, together with a pair of low pressure fuel pumps.
While I waited for Richard, I managed to stall the car. By this time everyone had gone. Our attempts to restart the car failed. we had now come to the attention of the port security who wanted us off the dock. The security guy was great but couldn't give us a tow[government car & supervisors on site]. He was however able to get us picked up by a flat bed recovery truck.
Richard & I have been over the decision that we were about to make, probably trying to justify a very very costly mistake, in more ways than one. A combination of a mistaken belief in what was waiting in Kamena Vourla, the cold & wet conditions & nowhere to get the car undercover to work on were the major factors. Changing the injection metering unit is not a quick job, probably 2 hours if all went well but more likely nearer 3 with our limited resources.
First we had to get off the dock.
The Express Services truck duly arrived & took us round the corner to their local office. At this point we were off the dock, make your mind up time.
Pump or carbs ?????????????????????????
