During the build of both the Coupe & later the Saloon, I had had ongoing conversations with Thanos in Greece. He has 2 ex works Coupes & a saloon to boot & has been a great help, in both sourcing parts & advice on the build.
As soon as we started having problems, the conversations started again both with him & the Aussie Frogs group. We were also able to draw on the experience of our fellow 504 crews on the event.
A common suggestion revolved around the breather for the fuel tank.[at this time only one tank was being used] and the possibility that if it were blocked we would create a vacuum in the tank & this might be causing our problems. This was also something put forward by Guy Chriqui from car 41[injection 504].
In order to remove the possibility I punched a hole in the filler cap.[or so I thought]. It turned out to be double skinned & I had only gone through the outer skin. This came to light as we left the ferry in Greece. To remove any possibility of a blockage I ran the car with no cap at all when we drove of the ferry.
The conversations with Thanos had come up with a plan to go back to carbs for the remainder of the event. This would take place at the service at Kamena Vourla if we weren't sorted before then.
Our phone conversations obviously lost something in the noise of the car, as my understanding of what would be waiting & the help available, was totally different to what eventually awaited us. It also affected a decision we made at the port of Igoumenitsa, that was to cost us a couple of thousand euros.
