Time to check the ring gaps before installing the pistons. As was to be expected all the gaps were within limits.
It was also time to check the piston bowl volume.
The piston installation was straightforward, although getting the oil control rings in gave a touch of grief until I changed the ring compressor.
The big end cap bearing are torqued using the angular method whereas the main caps are just done to a straight torque figure.
The oil pump has also come in for a bit of attention. We have changed the pressure relief valve spring in order to reduce the pressure slightly & have drilled holes in the pump body to allow extra oil pick up in the case of the sump
being damaged & blocking the pick up. We have made the holes the same diameter as those in the gauze, so there is no more chance of particles getting into the pump than through the OE filter.
