Revitalised Trim

As all the rest of the body work had benefited from a coat of paint, the door cards were looking decidedly second hand. The other thing about them was that they were originally made to suit the beige colour that Peugeot sent the car out into the  big wide world with. The brown had to go.

A quick coat of black soon smartened it all up, amazing the difference it makes.

With the cards & surround trims fitted that's one more job off the list.                     The other part which will need treating is the dashboard, but there is a little damage on it that needs repairing first.

The glove box is also on the hit list. In fact it's gone, to make way for the co-drivers bits & pieces.

It will also give easy access to the new fuse box & Relay panel.

Goodwood Festival of Speed

Anyone visiting Goodwood this weekend who is interested in any of the endurance type events ought to make the effort to visit Phillip Young on the Endurance Rally Association [ERA] stand. I am sure he will be glad to give you all the help you need.

Next week we will join a cast of thousands making the trip to Goodwood for the Festival Of Speed

We are going to try out a tracking system that I hope we will use on the London Cape Town Rally. The idea being to keep everyone up to speed with what Richard & I are up to. IF it works it should allow us to give you not only our route progress but also photos in real time.

Abingdon Track Day

Derek Looker will be back at Dalton Barracks, Abingdon, next Friday [1st July] with his Peugeot 205, to learn all about his new engine, gearbox & LSD before his next event proper.

Brake Valve

Our saloon has a proportioning valve, which App K says we can retain, as it was an OE fitment. All I need to do now is to find a trick way to adjust it remotely & Richard & I will be well away. For this event however, we will probably use it in it's original location,  load & travel related but with a little more bias to the rear than normal,As our load at the back will vary a lot [Just little things like 120 litres of fuel disappearing through the day], it may well prevent too much lock up on the rears when we don't want it.

As we plan to have a couple of trials with the car fully laden before we go, it should be possible to get a good feel for where it needs to be set.

To Halda or Not To Halda

When our 504 saloon was originally prepared a Halda was about the only trip meter available.

More common to taxis, calibration was a bit of a pain, requiring gear changes for different tyre sizes. They run off the speedo drive  via a "T" in the cable.While it might have been nice to  keep it, I think we will come into the 21st century to cater for tyre changes & speed calculations etc that we will need for the journey.

Volts Jolts

While we wait for fuel & brake parts, it's let us get on with the electrics, which have obviously followed the lead of the fuel system in design.

As we are going to have quite a bit of kit in the back when we go, we have tied the loom in underneath the roll cage right out of the way.

The rear half of the loom was in good condition & the only real mod that we will need to do is to make a feed for the second fuel pump.

 

The front however is another matter as the picture on the left shows. Sorting that lot out could be a bit of a challenge. The bit on the bottom left of the  switch plate was the home of the Halda Trip meter.

Route Update

With the entry list sorted it seems that this is the latest updated route Judging by the problems in some of the countries involved I can't help thinking that things may yet change.

Fuel System Evo 1

The existing fuel system used one electric pump for both of the 60 litre tanks & having already decided that we would have a second pump for safeties sake I came up with what I hope will provide us with separate supplies without too much drama.

This little arrangement is deep under the car & in order to get rid of it I propose to run 2 feeds to the degassing filter [water trap] which sits under the housing in the picture. Each of these will have a non return valve. That should mean that pressure will be maintained in the line whichever pump is working. The return fuel will go via a "Y" joint to both tanks & it shouldn't matter which one it goes to. If it fills one or if one is full it will go to the other. At least that's the theory. Now we wait for all the pipes & goodies to arive.
